Andrea Koehle Jones is an award-winning environmental education advocate, climate journalist, children’s book author, lyricist, and United Nations Climate Observer. She is the founder of The ChariTree Foundation, Canada’s national children’s environmental education charity dedicated to helping kids connect with nature.

Andrea has worked across print, online, and television media—including CBC and CBC Kids—and has contributed to landmark environmental campaigns such as the effort to save the Great Bear Rainforest.

“I want to give children opportunities to fall in love with nature—because you protect what you love.”Andrea Koehle Jones

Through her work with Nature Canada’s Women for Nature and as an advisor to UNICEF’s Leading Minds Fellowship on Climate Education (LMCEF), Andrea helps reframe climate education as both a child’s right and a catalyst for systemic change. She supports youth-led research, storytelling, and advocacy at international forums, including the United Nations Climate COPs.

Her forthcoming children’s picture book—Don’t Let Ned Plant a Tree!—will be published by DC Canada Education Publishing in Spring 2026. She is also the author of The Wish Trees: How Planting Trees Can Help Make the World a Better Place, which donates 100% of profits to children’s environmental education programs worldwide.

Andrea writes children’s picture books, middle grade fiction and nonfiction, screenplays, environmental features, and poetry—all rooted in her belief that stories can spark a lifelong love for the planet.

She holds a Master’s in Journalism from Western University, an Honours B.A. in Geography and International Development from Queen’s University, and a Climate Change Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.

When not attending UNICEF or UN climate conferences, Andrea can be found writing from her tree-topped island home off the coast of Vancouver—surrounded by ocean, trees, family, and dogs.

Fun fact: Andrea is also a lyricist; her tree-inspired song “My Persephone” reached the Jango Airplay Top Ten.
